Fyne Audio's reference passive supertweeter, adding high-frequency extension from 16kHz to 60kHz to any existing loudspeaker. The omnidirectional IsoFlare-derived transducer adds air, space, and fine detail retrieval to speakers with conventional tweeters. The SuperTrax is a passive omnidirectional supertweeter that extends high-frequency response above the limits of conventional tweeters. The 25mm thin-ply carbon diaphragm (TPCD) fires vertically onto a patent-pending Tractrix-profile diffuser cone for 360-degree dispersion. A third-order 16kHz high-pass crossover, cryogenically treated, is built in, and a ±3dB level control allows matching to the main speaker's sensitivity. It accommodates amplifiers up to 400W RMS.
Technical background
The SuperTrax uses a plasma ion discharge tweeter — one of the most advanced high-frequency transducers available to consumers — to extend system response beyond 40kHz. It is capacitor-coupled and connects in parallel with the main loudspeaker. Its tractrix horn loading is derived directly from Fyne's BassTrax technology.
Design story
The SuperTrax was developed by Fyne Audio as the definitive expression of their BassTrax tractrix technology applied to high-frequency extension. The plasma ion tweeter was previously found only in research and reference laboratory applications — the SuperTrax brings it to a production product for the first time at a practical price.
