PROPHECY1
The New Benchmark Standmount — PMC's LaminairX Technology Meets SEAS Excellence
Description ⌄
The PMC prophecy1 is a two-way standmount loudspeaker combining PMC's Advanced Transmission Line (ATL) technology with the new LaminairX aerodynamic vent system, which reduces distortion by up to 3dB compared to previous ATL designs by stabilising airflow in the transmission line. It uses a 5.25-inch mineral cone woofer with cast alloy chassis and a 27mm soft-dome tweeter. The cabinet features real wood veneer, hidden fixings, and magnetically attached grilles, and is handcrafted in Britain. The PMC prophecy1 is a compact two-way standmount loudspeaker and the entry point to the Prophecy series — PMC's current flagship consumer range, engineered to bring the studio-monitor accuracy of the professional range into domestic listening rooms. Like all Prophecy speakers, the prophecy1 is built around PMC's Advanced Transmission Line (ATL™) bass-loading technology: a precision-folded internal labyrinth of 1.32 metres forces low frequencies to travel the full length of the cabinet before emerging at the floor-firing port, loading the driver correctly and extending bass response to 50Hz from a cabinet only 400mm tall. The treble is delivered by a PMC 27mm soft-dome tweeter with a new-generation acoustic motor system, while the midrange and bass are handled by a 134mm LTXL mineral-cone woofer in a cast-alloy chassis — the same driver family used in PMC's studio monitors. The Prophecy cabinet is finished in real veneer or high-gloss lacquer and machined with exceptional precision: CNC-routed internal baffles, a curved front face to reduce diffraction, and a front acoustic chamber that positions the tweeter in the optimal relationship to the bass driver. Frequency response: 50Hz–20kHz (-3dB); sensitivity: 85dB/1W/1m; impedance: 6Ω. Dimensions: 165×400×260mm; weight: 10.3kg each.
Technical background
The prophecy1 introduces PMC's LaminairX port technology — a redesigned turbulence-reducing port geometry that further reduces the low-level noise artefacts at the port exit, providing cleaner bass reproduction at all listening levels. SEAS Excel drivers deliver the transparency and low distortion that characterises the Fact Signature range, in a more accessible package.
Design story
Designed in Luton as the successor to the twenty5.21i, the prophecy1 represents a ground-up redesign rather than an iteration. The LaminairX port, revised crossover, and updated cabinet reflect five years of acoustic research. Its What Hi-Fi? Award 2025 win confirms its standing as the new reference standmount at its price.
