ACTIVE TWENTY5.22I
Self-Powered twenty5.22i — Larger Active Standmount with Enhanced Bass Drive
Description ⌄
Active version of the twenty5.22i mid-size standmount, incorporating PMC's built-in amplification and DSP crossover. Bass extends to 39Hz via ATL loading; the wider 192mm cabinet supports higher 89dB efficiency. Replaces passive crossover for improved transient accuracy and driver control. €6,930/pair. The PMC active twenty5.22i is the self-powered version of the twenty5.22i standmount, with a built-in Class D amplifier and active crossover module. The larger 6.5-inch g-weave woofer benefits particularly from active drive, which optimises its control and bass extension compared to a passive amplifier/crossover combination.
Technical background
The active twenty5.22i integrates active Class D amplification with a DSP crossover into the twenty5.22i cabinet, providing individual amplifier drive for the 6.5-inch g-weave bass driver and SONOMEX tweeter. The larger bass driver benefits particularly from active control — the passive crossover was the main limitation on its bass agility.
Design story
The larger sibling of the active twenty5.21i, providing the same active advantages to the bigger-driver twenty5.22i cabinet.
Best for
Medium rooms; listeners who want the twenty5.22i's sonic character in an active configuration without a separate amplifier twenty5.22i owners seeking active upgrade; listeners wanting larger active standmount performance Self-powered larger standmount; partner for DAC or streamer in a studio-referencing domestic system
