ACTIVE TWENTY5.21I
Self-Powered twenty5.21i — Active Crossover, No Passive Losses
Description ⌄
Active version of the twenty5.21i compact standmount, with PMC's built-in amplification and DSP crossover replacing the passive crossover entirely. ATL bass extension to 46Hz; the active architecture delivers tighter bass control and a lower system noise floor than the passive equivalent. €5,250/pair. The PMC active twenty5.21i is the self-powered version of the twenty5.21i standmount, incorporating a built-in Class D amplifier module and active crossover into the cabinet. The active topology drives the 5.5-inch g-weave woofer and 19mm SONOMEX tweeter directly, eliminating the passive crossover and enabling optimised control of each driver for improved transient response and lower distortion.
Technical background
The active twenty5.21i integrates a Class D amplifier module and active DSP crossover directly into the twenty5.21i cabinet, removing the passive crossover and driving each driver from a dedicated amplifier channel. The result is improved dynamic control, lower intermodulation distortion, and higher maximum SPL compared to the passive version.
Design story
Developed alongside the active upgrade kit as PMC's answer to listeners who wanted to retain their twenty5.21i cabinets while gaining active performance, the active twenty5.21i demonstrates the technical advantage of active loudspeaker design without requiring a new cabinet purchase.
